The Wye Valley is where the picturesque was invented and it’s still one of the most beautiful places in the UK. But under the surface, the river is in trouble. Animal and plant species are losing their habitat. And in the picturesque small towns in England and Wales that flank the river, there are people struggling with homelessness. Pollution of waterways, and a dysfunctional housing sector, mean that humans and other species alike face a loss of habitat.

Mark Stafford

Mark Stafford is a cartoonist, he’s the co-creator of the graphic novels The Bad Bad Place, Lip Hook and The Man Who Laughs (with David Hine,) Cherubs! (with Bryan Talbot,) and the sole creator of many other comics, strips, posters, paintings, and such. He’s worked with the British Council on two projects in South Korea and has been the free floating ‘cartoonist in residence’ for the Cartoon Museum since 2006.

Ryan Prout

With Jonathan Clode, Ryan Prout is one of the originators of the All is Not Well project. He has enjoyed reading comics for as long as he can remember. He began using graphic novels in his teaching in the 2000s when comics crossed over into the human interest section of the Spanish press and literary scene. He has written about sequential art by creators including Paco Roca, Miguel Gallardo, Bef (Bernardo Fernández), and Francisco Ibáñez. ‘Loss of Habitat’ is one of his first forays into writing for comics. He is still learning about how to create dialogue for sequential art.
